Stop the Quarry
at Westerfield
A huge thank you to every single person who has supported this campaign so far.

Over 1,600 objections have now been submitted to the original proposal by residents, businesses, and organisations who care about protecting our community. This is one of the highest numbers of objections ever received by Suffolk County Council for a planning application.

This level of response has made it clear: this is not a small, local issue — it is a major concern affecting the safety, wellbeing, and future of the entire area.

Through detailed review of the application, we have also identified and highlighted multiple instances of inaccuracies, omissions, and misleading information, ensuring these concerns are formally on record.

Latest Update (April 2026)
The applicant, TRU7, has now submitted a Regulation 25 response, including several new technical assessments and a “Need Case.”

These documents are publicly available and can be reviewed via the Suffolk County Council planning portal (click here - bottom of the page).

The Stop the Quarry campaign group is currently reviewing this new material in detail. As with the original application, we expect to identify further issues and will share our findings in due course.

What Happens Next
Due to the upcoming Suffolk County Council elections (7th May 2026), the next stage of the process has been delayed.

-
A public re-consultation will take place after the elections
-
Anyone who previously submitted an objection will be contacted directly
-
You will not need to resubmit your original objection
-
Instead, you will be invited to respond specifically to the new information

We will provide clear, step-by-step guidance when this stage opens.

Why This Stage Matters
The re-consultation is a critical moment. It ensures that:

-
The applicant’s new claims are properly challenged
-
Decision-makers see continued public scrutiny
-
Community concerns remain visible and up to date

It also comes at a time when council representation may change following the elections, making public awareness and engagement even more important.

How You Can Help Now
While we review the latest submission:

-
Stay informed and keep checking for updates
-
Share awareness within the community
-
Review the new documents if you are able
-
Be ready to act when the re-consultation opens
We will also be organising further activity, including public meetings and opportunities to demonstrate community opposition.

Thank You
The strength of the response so far has been significant — and it is making a difference.
But this is not over.
Continued community support will be essential to stopping this industrial pit at Westerfield.
No turning back: If the pit is approved, the damage will be done.
