How can I help?

We need help in the following areas:

1. Raising funds and identifying resources - STQ continues to engage legal personnel and skilled experts to help take the community's fight up to the quarries.

The fight against Wagners has been won because STQ was very proactive and very beligerent. The case against Holcim highlighted how duplicitous extractive corportions can be but we were able to extract a number of imporant compromises from them before they build their batching plant.

Currently we are fighting Boral in court to ensure they do not get away with many things that the Gold Coast City Council and the state government turn a blind eye to but it severely affects the local community - such as interfering with a known water course without permission, encroaching dramatically on environmental buffer zones and creating unacceptable dust by continuing to use very outmoded machinery which should have been replaced years ago.

2.  Expertise - do you have skills that would be useful?

We need people to contact us skilled in:
- environmental science, water, noise, vibration and/or dust (engineering)
- health research in areas such as silicosis (university projects, clinical trials)
- proof readers and/or speech/policy writers (excited about converting concepts into plain english)
- graphics/web designers/cartoonists, photographers, IT experts, marketers (pictures tell a thousand words and visual concepts that get the message across)
- project managers (excited about coordinating events or activities or simple tasks such as data bases)
- retired persons and people who can give a little time (example tasks - count trucks, Google search, research libraries and museums and seek information records, overlay maps etc)

We also need community members to:

Hand out fliers and news sheets at local shopping centres, be a spokesperson for your street or your business, assist in fund raising or join in one of our active sub groups to gather field information and untake research.
