How is the "Stop The Quarry working group" set up?
Stop The Quarry currently has two working groups (Boral and Holcim). Both operate under the auspice of the Ormeau Progress Association.
A new group, the Ormeau Valley Community, has also been set up recently to develop long term environmental strategies for the Ormeau hinterland with a specific aim to stop degredation and soil erosion impacting negatively on the Pimpama River and ultimately on Moreton Bay Marine Park.
What is the role of Stop The Quarry?
STQ takes a lead role in planning and coordinating activities against local quarries in the Ormeau area. Members work to co-ordinate specific issues or areas of concern including raising funds for advertising and communication and to engage skilled experts to develop reports and undertake research that counter arguments by the quarry companies.
When does the committee meet?
The working group meets on a regular basis mostly at the Ormeau Progress Association Hall - old Ormeau Primary School site on McCready Road (off Tillyroen Road behind Peachey's Garage).
How do I get progress information about whats happening?
The most cost effective way to get information out to the public is by email newsletter. The public are invited to send their email addresses for this purpose. info@stopthequarry.info
Apart from attending public information sessions and keeping an eye on the Stop The Quarry web site you may wisb to become part of the working group. Click here to email the working group and let them know of your interest.
What can I do to help?
The first thing we can all do is to be more informed - about issues, arguments, and potential impacts. Make sure your neighbours and workmates are informed too. Spread the word. What Boral and Holcim continue to do with impunity seriously effect the whole of the Ormeau area (and beyond). STQ continues to seek help from local residents and businesses. We arrange for the best experts to help win our battle against inappropriate quarry developments. STQ is effective because we have skilled people working with us - people with influence, with linkages, time and ideas, who live and work in Ormeau - please let us know if you have skills, time, can spare some resources and have ideas - particularly if you can help us with developing or commenting on expert information.
